Currently, a railbus operates between the two well-known religious destinations, which are currently connected with 12 km-long-meter gauge track, but it is hardly put to use.
“Vrindavan is a well-known religious destination and witnesses a high influx of pilgrims every year. However, the current rail infrastructure—that is railbus service between Mathura and Vrindavan—is not at all popular among the locals. Our proposed transport solution, which may include tram or metro, will be instrumental in ushering commercial development and boosting the tourism potential of the region, said Ved Parkash Dudeja, vice-chairman, RLDA.
The duration of the completion of the pre-feasibility is 40 days. The proposed mass transit solution will comprise a three-lane road along with a bridged metro or tram transit system that can withstand a high footfall of passengers.
This development would be coupled with appropriate parking zones and commercial establishments like hotels, flea markets and eateries in the region.
