KOLKATA: At least 22 officials and other staff at the CBI’s Nizam Palace office were sent to quarantine after a top officer at the Anti-Corruption Branch was found Covid-19 positive on Monday afternoon. Operations at each of the three floors of the agency’s office at the Nizam Palace will remain suspended for at least 48 hours and a thorough sanitisation will be conducted after that.
According to sources, the ACB official-who was keeping unwell and his wife were found Covid-19 positive on Monday. Swab tests of his children and mother were also conducted and the results are yet to come. Meanwhile, the CBI has asked at least 22 officials who have come into contact with the ACB officer, to go for a quarantine. “Normally we conduct a deep sanitisation of the three floors every week. After an official was found positive we will open operations at the Nizam Palace only after sanitisation is complete,” said a CBI officer.
A skeletal staff will resume work after the office opens and physical movement at the three floors will be restricted. Meanwhile, officials will continue to work from home. The CBI office in Kolkata has moved more towards the online and digital platform since January this year. The digitisation process of the case files were in progress, said an official with the CBI.
