55 migrants arrive by air from Ladakh, 153 more waiting in the wings

Ranchi: A batch of 55 migrant workers from different districts of Santhal-Pargana division, who were stranded in Ladakh’s Nubra valley since March owing to the lockdown, were flown to Ranchi by the state government on Monday morning.
State ministers Mithilesh Kumar Thakur and Badal Patralekh welcomed the workers at the Birsa Munda International airport. The duo oversaw their departures to their native districts in buses arranged by the Ranchi district administration.
Upon their arrival, the migrants claimed they did not get their salaries for a few months. They also claimed that the contractors kept their ATM cards and a subsequent portion of their monthly wages.
This was the third batch of migrants to arrive in Jharkhand by air from Ladakh. The government said 153 workers, who have been evacuated from Nubra, Diskit and Chunthug Valleys, will be airlifted on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
