TRICHY: Five men, including two minor boys, were arrested on Monday for conspiring to commit a dacoity at Manalvarithurai in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu.
The Palakkarai police identified the accused as G Veera, 25, of Mudaliyar Chathiram, P Chinnathambi, 24, of Ambedkar Nagar, two 17-year-old boys from Palakkarai and Sangiliyandapuram and P Thiruppathi, 28, of Dharmanathapuram in Trichy. All the accused were charged with attempt to commit a dacoity under the IPC.
Their plan was exposed by K Prabu, 33, of Kajapettai in the city. Prabhu worked in a graveyard belonging to Trichy Corporation at Manalvarithurai.
On Monday morning, while he was at work, Prabhu heard the gang of five charting out their plan. Prabhu and two of his co-workers heard the men. They were planning to rob daily wage labourers of a cement godown in the area.
In his complaint, Prabu alleged that Veera had also planned to rob someone for their liquor party that night. He further stated that the gang possessed two machetes and three other weapons; Veera was the one who gave instructions to the rest of the gang.
On knowing their plan, Prabhu asked his co-workers to have a watch on the men and rushed to the Palakkarai police station. The police visited the graveyard and arrested all the five. They were later remanded in judicial custody.
