Maharashtra: Monsoon to arrive in next 2-3 days

The Southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Maharashtra in the next two or three days. The arrival of monsoon will be a respite of scorching heat in the state. The monsoon on Sunday led its path to parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

According to the latest forecast by India Meteorological Department (IMD), states that “Conditions are becoming favourable for the advancement of monsoon into some parts of Goa and south Konkan within the next two to three days.”

On Sunday, the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passed over some parts of Tamil Nadu including many parts of Bay of Bengal. According to the latest monsoon onset schedule declared by IMD, the monsoon over Maharashtra can be expected from Wednesday.

Cyclone Nisarga, which created huge destruction in many parts of the state including Alibaug, Raigad and more witnessed continuous pre-monsoon rains. Some parts reported 65.4 mm rainfall in June.

According to IMD officials, all districts in the state, except Yavatmal have usual either normal or excess rain during the ongoing pre-monsoon season. Districts such as Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, Nashik and Ahmednagar o recorded maximum rain in excess of 100 mm since June 1.

MONSOON TO ARRIVE IN MUMBAI ON JUNE 11

Southwest Monsoon will likely arrive in Mumbai on Thursday. As a low-pressure area is creating over the Bay of Bengal, it is probable to surge rainfall over Maharashtra coast.  Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said it was witnessed in the past that rainfall rises on the west coast when a low-pressure area is developed over the Bay of Bengal.

Mrutyanjay Mohapatra, Director General, IMD said, "It is a positive development as it will allow the further advancement of monsoon, and most probably it will meet its new normal onset date of June 11 for Mumbai. "
