Vascoites in grip of fear after 2 positive cases in New Vaddem

With two positive cases of COVID-19 reported in New Vaddem in Vasco, residents of the area are in grip of fear.

The residents have decided to cordon off the areas where the two cases were detected on Monday.

“We have decided to cordon off the areas with barricades, thus restricting the entry and exit of people to prevent any spread of the infection to other localities,” said councillor of Mormugao municipal council Yatin Kamurlekar. He said the two positive cases reported in New-Vaddem are related to the Vasco post office.

Health officer at the Sub-district Hospital at Chicalim Dr Rajendra Borkar confirmed the two positive cases which

include one woman. Earlier, on Sunday, one positive case was detected in Shantinagar area of the port town.

Meanwhile, people in New-Vaddem have raised concern over the transportation of labourers from Mangor Hill to other parts of Mormugao for construction works. The locals have demanded action against the transportation of labourers, since it could lead to a spread of the infection.

“We want the concerned authorities to initiate action against the people who are involved in transportation of labourers from Mangor-Hill to other parts of Mormugao taluka,” said an aggrieved resident of New-Vaddem.
