8 new movies and shows coming to Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix this week

The coming week, expect a variety of genres to hit your home screens

Fighting the blues that come with continued self-isolation and social distancing? The streaming giants are making sure we have ample options when in need of some television binge. This week, in store for you are a number of comedy-dramas, a true-to-life account of four medical professionals, a mysterious case of the disappearance of a young girl, an engaging fantasy film, and more. Here's the lowdown.

I May Destroy You (releases June 8)

HBO and BBC Television's comedy-drama series features a young woman who must pull together her life once again after her drink has beed spiked at a night out. Written and co-directed by protagonist Michaela Coel, the mysterious show is sure to keep you hooked. While the pilot episode, titled Eyes Eyes Eyes Eyes, releases today, viewers will have to wait another week for the one that follows.

Lenox Hill (releases June 10)

The true-to-life medical series pulls away from the usual excitement portrayed around the lives of doctors, time and again, on several popular shows; and focuses on what their lives look like in reality. The personal lives of the four main characters are surely touched upon, but expect an overview of their difficult, yet engaging, journeys in this timely docuseries.

Gulabo Sitabo (releases June 12)

Another comedy-drama on the list, Shoojit Sircar's Gulabo Sitabo is getting a direct access to digital streaming platforms without a theatrical release. The movie features a 78-year-old landlord (Amitabh Bachchan) and his tenant (Ayushmann Khurrana) in the lead roles; and centres around the everyday struggles of a common man living in Lucknow. There's humour, chaos and much more.

F is for Family S4 (releases June 12)

The fourth season of the popular animated sitcom will be available to stream on Netflix this Friday. In case you haven't watched the previous parts already, F is for Family is set in the 1970s and loosely based on the life of co-creator and stand-up comedian Bill Burr. The humorous account of a dysfunctional Irish-American family serves as a fitting escape from work and the current reality.

Pose S2 (releases June 12)

The TV series aptly captures the LGBTQ+ and gender-nonconforming ballroom culture in New York City. The show has also been listed as one that inspires beauty junkies across the world. With the first season having nominated for the Best Television Series – Drama at the Golden Globe Awards last year, the expectations of the fans remain high for the soon-to-be-out second part. Witness models and dancers competing with each other for recognition in the underground culture and much more.

Axone (releases June 12)

Nicholas Kharkongor's Indian drama premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2019. The movie revolves around a group of young adults hailing from Nagaland, and living in Delhi's Humayunpur. After they cook a dish with Axone, a Naga delicacy, they witness huge consequences, including a run-in with the landlord. The film aims to tell the story of every person who comes from the north-eastern parts of the country to settle down in the metropolis.

Artemis Fowl (releases June 12)

The fantasy film based on Eoin Colfer's novel series of the same name, is about a 12-year-old genius who has a family of criminal masterminds. On his quest to find his father, he comes across unusual events and a mysterious world of fairies.

The Search (releases June 12)

The true-crime series follows the mysterious disappearance of a young girl from a suburb near Mexico. As the search gets unclear and muddy with personal goals involved, the plot acts as an addictive short binge.
