Google Elevates Prabhakar Raghavan as Search Head, to also see Advertising & Commerce

Raghavan will succeed Ben Gomes as the head of Search and assistant, wherein advertising and commerce headed by Jerry Dischler will come under him.

Google announced the elevation of Prabhakar Raghavan as the Head of Search and Assistant who will be taking over Ben Gomes. Gomes will now be reporting directly to Sundar Pichai, Alphabet Chief Executive, as he assumes his new role under the company banner whilst continuing to manage the commerce and payments business and the Next Billion Users unit.

Jerry Dischler who will be heading Google’s advertising business will work under and report to Raghavan. Joining Google in 2012, Raghavan was appointed as the Head of the tech giant’s advertising and commerce business in 2018. This title role incorporated the regulation and direction of search, display and video advertising, analytics, shopping, payments, and travel sections. Before this role, he was handling the post of Vice-President of Google Apps and Google Cloud, supervising its engineering, products, and user experience. Prior to joining Google, Raghavan had also headed search teams amongst numerous roles at IBM and Yahoo. His vast and productive experience is what makes him valuable for this position at Google. 

In addition to this, information was released about Gomes new role as he aims to lead and authorize the search giant's scholarship provisions and initiatives across areas like education, arts & culture, etc., with the aim of binding them meticulously to Google's leading products and fundamental user practices. Another change at the establishment will see Senior Vice-President of Google Maps, Jen Fitzpatrick, assuming the new role of spearheading company's core and corporate engineering teams, that comprises of 8,000 employees.
