New Delhi: Coronavirus cases in India have crossed 2.5 lakh as a surge in infections continued amid increasing relaxations allowed by the government following an over two-month nationwide lockdown. Over 7,135 people have died so far in the country.
Shopping malls, religious places, hotels and restaurants are set to reopen in most states with some restrictions from today after over two months, that could pose new challenges to check the spread of the coronavirus.
Maharashtra registered 3,007 new cases till Sunday, the government said, and remains the worst state in the country with 85,975 cases. More than 3,000 people have died in the state. The state has now surpassed China's COVID-19 tally of 83,036 confirmed cases, a health official said.
Delhi, which is also witnessing a spike as people resumed regular activities and shed caution, has reported 27,654 cases of COVID-19 so far, including 761 deaths.
The pandemic has killed 400,581 people worldwide since it surfaced in China late last year. At least 6,949,890 cases have been registered in 196 countries and territories.

New Zealand Clears Its Last COVID-19 Case
New Zealand has no active COVID-19 cases after the country's final patient was given the all clear and released from isolation, health authorities said Monday.
The milestone was "really good news" and an achievement the whole of New Zealand could take heart from, health department director-general Ashley Bloomfield said.
"Having no active cases for the first time since February 28 is certainly a significant mark in our journey but, as we've previously said, ongoing vigilance against COVID-19 will continue to be essential," he said in a statement.

Surge In Latin America As Global Coronavirus Number Pass 4,00,000
Surging fatalities in Latin America helped push the global number of deaths due to coronavirus to above 4,00,000 on Sunday, even as Europe emerged from its virus lockdown with infections increasingly under control there.
Pope Francis, addressing Catholics in Saint Peter's Square on Sunday for the first time since the health emergency began, said the worst was over in Italy and expressed sympathy for those in hard-hit Latin American countries.
"Your presence in the square is a sign that in Italy the acute phase of the epidemic is over," Francis said as the Vatican confirmed it had no more cases of COVID-19 among its employees or within Vatican City.
"Unfortunately in other countries -- I am thinking of some of them -- the virus continues to claim many victims."
With Reopening Of Religious Places From Today, People Offer Prayers At Temples In National Capital
More than two months after the nationwide lockdown was put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus, people on Monday offered prayers at Kalka Ji Temple as the government has allowed reopening of religious places from today.
As per Ministry of Health guidelines, touching of idols/holy books, choir/singing groups are not allowed.
People also gathered at Gauri Shankar Temple in Chandni Chowk to offer prayers.
Malls, Hotels, Restaurants Can Open, No Gatherings Will Be Allowed: Bhopal District Collector
Shopping malls, hotels and restaurants situated outside containment zones here can open from today, as per officials.
According to Tarun Pithode, District Collector, Bhopal, there will be, however, a complete ban on gatherings.
The nationwide lockdown which was first imposed in the month of March to check the spread of coronavirus has been gradually relaxed.

Combating COVID-19: Mumbai Auto Drivers Use Isolation Cover For Safety
Vicky Nagpal from Mumbai is producing isolation covers for auto-rickshaws, as a precautionary step to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 to passenger and auto drivers.
"We were already making these cover for cars. Now we are manufacturing it for auto rickshaws. In Mumbai, the State Government is giving relaxation in lockdown day by day. From today auto-rickshaws will be allowed," he said.
"Auto rickshaw owners come to me and asked for some protection from COVID-19. We made this product for them," he added.
33-Year-Old Journalist Dies Of Coronavirus In TelanganaA 33-year-old journalist working for a Telugu television channel died due to COVID-19 on Sunday morning at the state-run Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad.
The reporter was admitted to the hospital on June 4 after being referred from another state-run hospital, where he had tested positive.

The coronavirus pandemic killed 691 people in the United States over the past 24 hours, the lowest number in a week, figures from Johns Hopkins University showed on Sunday.
There have been a total of 110,482 deaths in the country and 1,938,842 cases, the Baltimore-based institutions' real-time tracker reported at 8:30 pm (0030 GMT Sunday).
Both the number of cases and death count are by far the highest in the world.
Shramik train with 1,750 passengers from Bengaluru leaves for UP
A Shramik special train carrying migrant workers departed from KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
The train was carrying around 1,750 passengers.
The government has allowed operation of Shramik special trains for the purpose of repatriation of stranded people amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Malls, religious places to open from today in many states
Shopping malls, religious places, hotels and restaurants are set to reopen in most states from today after over two months, that could pose new challenges to check the spread of the coronavirus. In the malls, cinema halls, gaming arcades and children play areas will continue to be in the prohibited segment.
Many states have issues different SOPs over the re-opening of such places.
The Punjab government for example provides for a token-based entry to malls as part of its guidelines. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that malls, restaurants and religious places in the national capital would open, but banquet halls and hotels would remain closed.
