The
Covid case count in India went up by 9,983 since yesterday's last update to touch 2,56,611 today, data from Union Home ministry showed.
At 8 am, the number of the dead was 7,135, and that of the cured/discharged was 1,24,095.
It took five days for the country's caseload to to go from 2 lakh (June 2 count) to 2.5 lakh. To put things in perspective, it had taken as many as 74 days for cases to go from one to 10,000.
As many as 32 states/Union Territories reported fresh cases yesterday, with 18 of them reporting fatalities.
The global case count, meanwhile, has been steadily inching towards 70 lakh. Total deaths worldwide so far have been recorded at over 4 lakh. At last count, the US — the hardest-hit in the world — alone had over 1,12,000 fatalities.
