Haryana gets 496 positive cases, highest spike in single day

CHANDIGARH: With almost one case every three minutes in the last 24 hours, Haryana saw its sharpest spike of 496 cases in single day taking the state's overall novel coronavirus count to 4,448 cases on Sunday. With four new deaths, the death toll in the state has gone up to 28.
Some 194 persons were discharged from various hospitals in the state, taking the count of recovered persons to 1,474. With this, the recovery rate has seen a slight improvement with 33.14% and Haryana has an active patient count of 2,946.
Proximity to Delhi as well as return of locals with travel history has spoiled Haryana's calculations on its Covid-19 count. The doubling rate has reached six days. The state has recorded over 1,000 new patients in the last three days and has seen an increase of 2,816 cases in the last 10 days.
With Gurugram topping the table with 230 new cases, 459 out of 496 cases on Sunday came from the NCR districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Panipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Palwal, Nuh, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Rewari and Naranul.
Haryana opened allowed movement of traffic and general public along with various modes of transport from June 1.
"Those who test positive are either contacts of previous positive patients or have travel history from NCR or the Covid-affected states. Anyhow, we are monitoring the situation and are acting accordingly," Haryana DGHS S B Kamboj said.
Reacting to the sharp rise in the cases in a day, Haryana health minister Anil VIj admitted that lifting of restrictions has contributed to the sudden spike in the Covid cases. "Certainly, this is a matter of concern. But the state borders and restrictions had to be lifted and this has been done on demand of general public and in accordance of guidance from MHA. Proximity to Delhi is certainly a factor, but at the same time we had the best recovery rate and shall go back to the same recovery rate. We have sufficient measures in place to deal with situation," he said.

As on now we have arrangements for 25,000 quarantine beds, 10,000 isolation beds and a good amount of ventilators. But, we are sure of keeping situation under control,” Vij added.
After Gurgaon, Sonipat recorded second highest spike in a day with 73 cases followed by 56 in Faridabad. Rohtak and Narnaul recorded 25 cases each and Narnaul crossed the 100-case mark.
Testing rate in Haryana has gone up to 5,748 tests per million as till Sunday 145,722 persons have been tested. Of these, results of 136,555 were negative. Also, 47,801 persons have completed the quarantine period. Now there are 30,331 persons in quarantine.
