    TO THE EDITOR:

Regarding "AutoNation to cut 3,500 jobs permanently" (autonews.com, June 3): Can Chief Customer Experience Officer Marc Cannon, CEO Mike Jackson and the rest of the team imagine what would have been the impact if they had decided to dig deep into cash, assets and a line of credit to keep all these people who built the place on the payroll for 60 days or even longer?

They would have set a standard and sent a message of leadership and vision.

Even stockholders would have lauded the action.

CHUCK PARKER , Publisher, Automotive Digest, Manhattan Beach, Calif.
