India registered a record single-day spike for the sixth consecutive day on Monday, with 9,983 new infections taking the country's tally to 2,56,611, according to the Union Health Ministry.

India is the fifth worst-affected nation in terms of coronavirus infection cases after the US, Brazil, Russia, and the UK, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
The number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 1,25,381, according to the Health Ministry.
A total of 1,24,095 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, the Ministry said.
