Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has made the whole country proud by becoming the first Indian recipient of the prestigious Richard Dawkins award. Since 2003, this award has been bestowed to those individuals who ‘publicly proclaim the values of secularism and rationalism, upholding scientific truth wherever it may lead.’ Now, ever since the news broke out, his well-wishers and colleagues have been flooding his social media accounts in large numbers to congratulate him on making India proud. Along with son Farhan Akhtar and wife Shabana Azmi, celebrities such as Anil Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Hrithik Roshan, filmmaker Nikhil Advani among others expressed their elation at his success. For those of you who follow the lyricist on Twitter, you would agree that he truly deserves this honour as he always voices his opinions on varied issues, including public policies, secularism and religion, never once retracting his views owing to public pressure.
