As the Central and state governments allow phase-wise relaxation in curbs to get the life up and running again following over two months of lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19, we bring you the latest updates from Delhi and the natioanl capital region.

* Corona cess on liquor out, but VAT up to 25%
Delhi government has decided to withdraw from Wednesday the 70% special corona fee levied on liquor a month ago when its revenue collection was down to just 10% due to the novel coronavirus lockdown.
The government has, however, decided to increase the value added tax (VAT) on liquor from 20% to 25%. Hence, from June 10, when the new rates will come into effect, liquor will be sold at a price only fractionally higher than the pre-Covid days, said a senior official of the excise department.

* In a major step forward to restoring normalcy in the city — and learning to live with Covid-19 — the Delhi government on Sunday allowed restaurants, shopping malls and places of worship to open from Monday. They will have to comply with the standard operating procedures issued by the Union ministry of health and family welfare on June 4.
* Delhi throws open borders, beds for super-specialty
The Delhi cabinet decided on Sunday to reserve admission of patients to state government-run and private hospitals to only residents of the city. Hospitals run by the Centre and super-specialty health facilities providing treatment for oncology, neurology, among other ailments, can continue to admit patients from other states.

* On the eve of malls, shrines and several other public places reopening in many parts of the country, fresh Covid-19 infections surged to a new high of 10,785 cases on Sunday, while India’s coronavirus caseload went past the 2.5 lakh mark and deaths from the virus crossed 7,000.
