A midengine Chevrolet Corvette sustained major damage but became a social media sensation after falling from a lift in a Chevy dealership service bay.
The car's owner says that not only were the dealership's service technicians unaware of how to properly hoist the car, they also shared photos of the mishap on Instagram.
The owner, Jake Miller, in an Instagram post of his own, said he had "spoken with executives" from General Motors about the situation and was waiting for a new car. The post included a photo of his car after the fall, as well as a GM diagram showing the proper lifting points for the Corvette C8, given the unusual weight distribution created by the midengine layout. Miller, who lives in Florida, didn't identify the dealership.
"Yes, this is my car," he wrote. "I did not want this to be shared publicly until after the dealer had the opportunity to correct this crappy situation. Apparently some idiots in their service department took it upon themselves to try and get some clout from my misfortune by taking pictures and sharing them without my consent. To the fellow C8 owners, please ensure your dealer is aware of the diagram in the second picture before you leave your car with them."
