Adoption Of Indoor Air Filtration Systems Will Go Up Tremendously Because Of COVID 19: Barun Aggarwal, CEO, BreatheEasy
In days to come It will become very important to focus on the quality of air we breathe

People are very cautious when it comes to the quality of water they are consuming and make sure that they drink filtered and purified water but how many of them actually think about the quality of air that they breathe all day long. Awareness needs to be created for indoor air quality too because it has a direct impact on our health.
“In the last 30 years the only thing that has helped to clear the air is this lockdown. What changed in this lockdown that actually gave us blue skies? In the past few days we were only allowed to buy necessities and here is the opportunity for us to hit the great reset button,” said Barun Aggarwal, CEO, BreatheEasy (an indoor air quality solution company) while participating in BW Businessworld Sustainability Dialogues.
Aggarwal was in conversation with Dr Annurag Batra, Chairman & Editor in chief, BW Businessworld and exchange4media group.
Speaking about sustainability, he said “If we do not take cognizance of all the different issues around us with regards to sustainability and environment, it is going to come back and hurt us. We need to manage climate-related crisis, strengthen the social fabric and aspire economic activity that actually creates value for humankind.”
Aggarwal informed that air purification technology cannot be solely used to filter the outdoor air because it is huge and is continuously moving. “Natural plants play a very vital role in human survival and the growth of our planet. Source control is another measure which has to be implemented when outdoor pollution is monitored,” he added.
Industry should follow norms that are set-up legally to protect our environment. The implementation of these environment laws also has to be very strong. No trees should be cut in the name of development.
Speaking about indoor air quality Aggarwal said, “Plants alone cannot solve the problem of pollution today and you do need to have mechanical solutions to support them. But adding plants to the natural ecosystem of the solutions that you adopt is very important. You have to be careful while choosing a technology for indoor air pollution control.”
He spoke about how people are gradually becoming aware about the ill effects of indoor air pollution to human health. “We will open the economy soon and because of that unfortunately the air pollution levels will be back to where they were before. From indoor perspective we have seen a fairly large uptick when it comes to adoption of air purifiers. Air –conditioners can play a part in spreading Covid-19. I would not be surprised to see the adoption of filtration systems going up by more than a 100 per cent in the next one year,” he concluded.
