"The idea came up because of the coronavirus pandemic a whole new work culture of remote working has evolved thus there would be less of dedicated physical offices, and therefore this cafe would then be used for business meetings, client reviews, interviews and a lot more."

Pune: Pune-based Shreya Bansal, a student member of Smart Cloud Campus(SCCN) and a first-year student studying Masters in Immersive Media Design at MIT Institute of Design, MIT ADT University has been selected as the top six finalists for The Student Design Competition sponsored by The Wild in VRAR global Summit Conference 2020.

Bansal has come up with a concept of an interconnected cafe in the post-COVID 19, and her work has been featured in the VRAR global summit. It was a live global level design competition part of the annual VRAR global Summit Conference, 2020.

The challenge was to design a space that encourages digital socialisation as well as the innovative social distancing post-COVID-19 period. Students were exposed to emerging technologies, gained professional exposure, and competed to win a free VR headset, a feature article in SPAR3D, and a subscription to The Wild.

Shreya designed an interconnected café which allows a person to share a cup of coffee or have a meal with their friends and family from a different city, state or even a country while sitting right in their nearest café. This was possible by using a holographic device and a gesture-based device on each table which lets the customer see the menu, order food, pay the bill, video call, speak to new people, attend live concerts, stand up comedies, live music, all of these right from their seats.

Shreya said, "The idea came up because of the coronavirus pandemic a whole new work culture of remote working has evolved thus there would be less of dedicated physical offices, and therefore this cafe would then be used for business meetings, client reviews, interviews and a lot more."
