Air India's ground handling subsidiary AIASL company warranted in a notice that it will provide provisions of job on a compassionate ground for one family member of the employee who dies due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Air India Airport Services (AIASL) in collaboration with Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU) announced in a notice that they would be offering employment opportunities for one member of the family for their employees who lost their lives to the worldwide pandemic, Covid-19.
This notice came into being after the sad demise of an Air India pilot who had passed away on June 5th, 2020 due to coronavirus after merely two months of having been retired in April, this year. In lieu of this, the union demanded that one member of the family of the retired employee be given a job, even if they are not eligible or adequate for it.
Air India's largest employees unions, Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU)’s General Secretary, J.B. Kadian, had earlier this week urged in a letter to the chairman and managing director of the airlines, Rajiv Bansal, to inculcate the taskforce attached to its nominees in the medical insurance cover for "COVID-19 Frontline warriors". The letter was written as the staff and the subsidiaries were left out of the protectionist schemes announced by the Government.
The employment conditions were clarified with the provision that the service will be made available keeping in sight with the terms of engagement of AIASL, and therefore, operational only at the airports served by AIASL, which means an estimate of 81 airports pan India. The job will be extended on compassionate and humanitarian grounds to aid the people in need.
This request was made as the operations of the airline were continued even during the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. AIESL staff have aired around 1,900 flights (till June 4th, 2020) and have been engaging in the cargo procedures under the central government's lifeline- Udan initiative- while also handling flights under the Vande Bharat Mission besides servicing the domestic flights.
