LU presses caution button as professor tests Covid positive

Lucknow University
LUCKNOW: The news of a female professor of applied economics testing positive for Covid-19 created a flutter on the Lucknow University (LU) campus on Sunday.
As the teacher had met several colleagues in the past few days and even took part in a department meeting, seven teachers and a senior official were asked to home-quarantine themselves. All academic work was suspended with advice to faculty members to stay at home till the end of this month. Three academic departments - applied economics, biochemistry and commerce - visited by the female professor have been closed for a week.
Vice-chancellor Prof Alok Kumar Rai said "We have decided to work with minimum staff. Only those involved in essential administrative work like admissions have been asked to come to office." A virtual meeting, slated for June 12, has also reportedly been put off. It started on Sunday morning after the LU proctor posted a message on the university's official WhatsApp group informing that the female professor tested positive on Saturday and advised all those who had come in direct contact with her to home-quarantine themselves. Soon, the female professor, who has been admitted to SGPGIMS, confirmed about her status in the group.
