GUWAHATI: Sixteen-year-old Riaj Ali, a patient of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, passed the Assam X board examinations, results of which were declared on Saturday, with flying colours, scoring 94.83% and coming very close to making it to the top-10 rankings.
Riaj, who hails from Jaluguti village of Morigaon district. has been undergoing treatment at Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) here since June 2018.
Speaking about his battles, he said that he has had to visit the hospital in Guwahati for a checkup and chemotherapy once every month for the last six months and travels over 200 km for each visit.
With dreams of becoming a doctor one day, Riaj told TOI over phone, "I am in a much better condition but treatment is still going on. I have to visit BBCI every month for checkups, chemo and updates on my health. During the exam also, I had to go for chemo." He also added he was not able to study regularly due to the effects of chemotherapy.
