CBSE, CISCE urge Maharashtra govt to allow conduct of pending exams
A senior CBSE official said both the boards had requested the government to review its demand.
Representative imageMUMBAI: The Central Board of Secondary Education and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations have requested the state to reconsider their demand to not conduct the pending papers in the month of July. Officials from the two boards met state education department authorities on a video meeting on Saturday.
Earlier this week, the school education department wrote to the either hold the exams in a later month or rely on internal evaluation. The exams are scheduled to be held between July 1 and 14. The board officials in the meeting with the department on Saturday shared data about the number of students from the state that have to appear for the pending exams.
A senior CBSE official said both the boards had requested the government to review its demand. “Except for four districts in Maharashtra, which include Mumbai, Thane and Nagpur, the number of students per exam centre is as low as 15-20. In the four districts too, there are only about 50 students at a given centre. Not all of these students have exams every day. So it is possible to follow the central government’s norms and conduct the exams,” said the official.
CISCE secretary and CEO Gerry Arathoon said he cannot comment on the issue as the matter is now sub judice. Parent and advocate Arvind Tiwari moved the Bombay High Court demanding the exams be rescheduled. The court will hear the petition on June 9. The Yuva Sena too has written to the boards demanding the cancellation of the pending exams.
Officials from the education department said they would analyse the data and work out a solution in the best interest of the children.
There are eight ISC papers and six ICSE papers still to be conducted. There are 12 CBSE class XII papers still to be conducted. CBSE class X papers are pending only for North-East and Delhi only.
