Coronavirus latest news: India reported its highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday, with 9,971 new infections, according to the Health Ministry data. The country's rank is rising among countries most-affected in the coronavirus pandemic in terms of total number of cases, data from different organisations shows.
Coronavirus world update: The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 6,982,061 and 402,241 people have died from the disease so far.
India had 247,040 coronavirus cases and 6,946 deaths from the disease to rank sixth, according to Worldometer website on Sunday. USA's Johns Hopkins University put the same the numbers for total cases and deaths, but ranked India as the fifth most-affected.
The country’s health ministry put the total Covid-19 cases at 236,657 and deaths at 6,929, according to data released on Saturday.
