Record 9,971 coronavirus cases in 24 hours takes India's Covid-19 tally to 246,628

In the biggest single-day spike, India has recorded 9,971 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours. This is the fourth consecutive day when cases registered surpassed the 9,500-mark in the country.

Coronavirus cases in India on Sunday morning witnessed its biggest spike as the country recorded a total of 9,971 infections in a span of 24 hours, shows fresh data on the health ministry’s website. The new number of coronavirus cases has taken India's Covid-19 tally to 246,628.

With 246,628 number of coronavirus cases, India has surpassed Spain to claim the fifth spot in the list of countries worst affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, only the United States, Brazil, Russia, and the United Kingdom are ahead of India in the total coronavirus cases.

The death toll in India, too, has climbed to 6,929 as 287 pushed the country's number of casualties due to Covid-19 infection.

Out of the total number of cases in India, 120,406 active infections, and 119,293 are either cured or discharged, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
