Read Amazon CEO’s reply to an ‘angry’ customer’s email
There have been large-scale protests in the United States in the last week or so. The death of George Floyd, a black man who passed away after police brutality has seen people taking to the streets with the message “Black Lives Matter”. Several big tech companies too have come out in support of the protests. However, it seems like one customer wasn’t too happy with the kind of ‘message’ Amazon was sending and wrote an email to CEO Jeff Bezos, who is also the world’s richest man. Bezos, surprisingly, replied to her email.
The customer had written that Amazon was sending a wrong message by saying “Black Lives Matter” when it should say that “All Lives Matter”. The customer said that it was disturbing and offensive to see Amazon posting a message in solidarity with the movement and said that “All Lives Matter.”
Bezos replied, “I have to disagree with you,” Bezos replied. “‘Black Lives Matter’ doesn’t mean other lives don’t matter. Black lives matter speaks to racism and the disproportionate risk that Black people face in our law enforcement and justice system,” wrote Bezos in his email.
He further cited the example of him having a 20-year-old son and he perhaps will “never have to worry that he might be choked to death while being detained one day.” Bezos said he will continue to support this movement. “I want you to know I support this movement that we see happening all around us and my stance won’t change,” he concluded.
Amazon, meanwhile, took to its Twitter account as well to show solidarity to the Black Lives Matter protest.
“The inequitable and brutal treatment of Black and African Americans is unacceptable. We believe Black lives matter. We stand in solidarity with our Black employees, customers, and partners, and are committed to helping build a country and a world where everyone can live with dignity and free from fear,” tweeted the company,
