239 new cases take Karnataka’s Covid count to 5,452

BENGALURU: Karnataka reported 239 Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the total number of the infected in the state to 5,452.
About 74% (177) of the new patients are Maharashtra returnees. According to the department of health and family welfare, 183 patients had traveled from other states and nine were international passengers.
Kalaburgi and Yadgir reported 39 cases each, followed closely by Belagavi at 38.
Bengaluru, which reported 23 fresh positive cases, also recorded two deaths since Saturday night. A 61-year-old woman suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and a 57-year-old man who was suffering from filariasis and chronic myeloid leukaemia were the two new fatalities, taking the state’s Covid-19 death count to 61.
Ten patients are in ICU including four in Bengaluru.
While Karnataka had reported 3221 positive cases till May 31, 2231 more have tested positive in the ensuing seven days. The number of active cases went up from 1950 to 3257 in the period.
The state reported 143 discharges, but active cases continued to remain high in at least four districts. Udupi with 902 positive cases has 798 active cases, followed by Kalaburgi (487 active out of 660 positive cases), Yadgir (445 out of 515) and Raichur (305 out of 359).
