GSIA hails launch of online portal for job vacancies

Vasco: The Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) has welcomed the launch of an online portal for job vacancies by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant through labour department.

GSIA has been working very closely with the state government to connect Goan job seekers with the industry and other establishments to promote employment in Goa.

“Industries in Goa have been facing a lot of difficulties in getting workforce. The outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has further aggravated the employment problem for the industries. The lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 created panic and fear amongst the migrant workers and there has been reverse migration of the workers to their hometowns. Many of the workers from across the border have also not been able to join the work in Goa due to lot of objection from the local people,” stated GSIA president Damodar Kochkar and further opined that under these circumstances it is a good idea to have an online portal for Goan youth, who are seeking employment, to enrol themselves on the portal with all their details.

“It will be also easy for the employers to select the right people after going through their bio-data, and therefore, GSIA appeals to industries in Goa to support the government in creating employment and employ Goans as much as possible as it was done some years back. Whatever difficulties that may be faced can be sorted out through dialogue with the government, employers and employees,” Kochkar has stated.

He further stated that “it is often alleged that industries in Goa are reluctant to employ local youth. This is not true. Everyone must understand that industries are in business in a very competitive environment. They need people who are serious about their job, which is lacking in our Goan youth. Besides, while employing local youth, there is lot of political interference in selection of the candidates and demand for higher wages with less work.”  “It will be good for the state of Goa if politicians allow industries to function independently,” he has added.
