CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported 19 deaths and 1,458 fresh Covid-19 cases on Saturday, taking the toll to 251 and the total number of cases to 30,152.
Of the total cases reported on Saturday, 1,423 were from within the state, including 1,146 from Chennai. With these, Chennai breached the 20,000-mark and reached 20,993 cases. It has so far reported 197 deaths.
City’s neighbouring districts Chengalpet reported 95, Kancheepuram 16 and Tiruvallur 79 cases. The remaining 84 cases were from 24 districts. While Tuticorin logged 14 cases, the remaining districts reported a single digit increase.
Among the 35 returnees who tested positive, there were 12 passengers who travelled by flight -- five from Saudi Arabia, one from the UAE and six from other states. There were three patients who travelled by train and 20 others who came by road.
