If the Goa government announces the lockdown again, we will cooperate with the government by keeping our shops closed, said Vinod Shirodkar, the president of the new market vendors association.

It may be recalled that these shopkeepers recently invited the ire of the police after they forcefully kept their shops open and the MMC had initiated action on them.

A day after, a health worker residing in Aquem, Margao was found positive for COVID-19,  fear gripped the Margao new  market with very few visitors making it to the market for purchases.

Margao has been the commercial hub of Goa with fifty percent of shops at the new market opened each day following the colour coding system.

“There were very less visitors at the new market today. People are scared to come out after a  COVID-19  positive case has been found in Aquem, even though these are important days for monsoon related purchases,’’  said  Shirodkar.

The new market normally sees lot of crowd, but today very few were seen at the market,’’ said another vendor. He said people who had visited the market had been extra cautious on Friday as many were seen maintaining social distancing, he said.
