Prayagraj: Chequered handkerchief was key in exam racket

PRAYAGRAJ: Investigations into the interstate government job recruitment racket busted here on Thursday have revealed the unique modus operandi adopted by the gang to cheat the invigilators in assistant teachers' recruitment examination.
The solvers, who promised to provide answers in written exam, asked the candidates to carry chequered handkerchief and draw numbers from one to 100 or 150 on it and a circle or square in front of each number where they could note the right option like A, B, C or D within ink pen, without arousing the suspicion of the invigilating staff.
Investigations also claimed that solvers and racketeers were hand in glove with centre managers and supervisors as they had prior information about sets of question papers to be allotted to a particular centre and details of seating arrangement. Further investigations are underway in this connection.
Prayagraj SSP Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj said, "The arrest of as many as 10 members of the racket has proved to be a big catch for the department. With their revelations, we would be able to unearth the racket involving agents from small towns to metropolitan cities."
He added, "The kingpin of the racket deputed his agents at two levels. While one looked for gullible candidates, the others took money from willing candidates and send them answers on WhatsApp number." "After sending answers, they asked the candidates to arrange chequered handkerchiefs, draw numbers from 1 to 100 (depending on the number of questions), and write right option (A, B , C or D) in front of the question number so that it could be copied on OMR sheet," he added.
