Cops probing origin of fake message on Whatsapp

Crime Branch police probing the alleged fake message case pertaining to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is trying to trace the origin of the message which was circulated on whatsapp.

In this connection, the police have questioned some journalists and that further; more people are being summoned for questioning. According to the police, the fake message in question was forwarded on whatsapp group and that they are in process to trace from where it originated and identify the sender.

It may be recalled that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had filed a complaint against the fake message circulated on whatsapp on how (COVID-19) community transmission has begun in Goa. Based on the complaint, the Crime Branch police had registered the FIR and the case is being investigated by PI Jivba Dalvi.

Rane in a post on social media had said that a fake message is being circulated on whatsapp with his picture stating recovery of patients and how community transmission has begun in Goa.

“I would like to reiterate to the people that this is a very sensitive time and rumor mongering will not be tolerated. We will be taking strict action against those instilling fear among the people by spreading fake messages”, Rane had said in the post.
