Tejashwi Prasad Yadav PATNA: Leader of opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Friday lashed out at the state government and tore a letter purportedly issued and later recalled by ADG (law and order) asking all SPs and DMs to remain alert for possibility of rise in crime in the wake of influx of large number of migrant workers.
Tejashwi also sought a road map from the state government to provide job to migrant workers. "As per government's data, over 30 lakh migrants have returned to the state. The government has assured them of providing jobs. It should now come up with a road map for this," he said.
He said the controversial letter was a mockery in the name of dignity of labour and dignity of human beings. "The government is not only treating migrant workers as second-class citizens, but also considering them as looters and criminals. As per this letter, migrant workers will turn violent after not getting a job. Has the government accepted that it is not possible for it to provide job to workers?" Tejashwi asked. He said CM Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi should apologise publicly for such a letter. "Many migrant workers died of hunger, many are jobless now and this is how you treat them. This letter was issued almost a week back, but withdrawn on Friday after we raised the issue," Tejashwi said.
Later in the evening, DGP Gupteshwar Pandey clarified that the letter had nothing to do with the government. "Police get information from different sources and the letter was issued in a routine manner. The government was not at all involved in it," he said.
