State records highest surge of 71 COVID cases in 24 hours

In its biggest jump so far, 71 new confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) were recorded in the last 24 hours in Goa, taking the state’s tally of total active cases of the dreaded virus to 202.

As per the media bulletin issued by the directorate of health services on Saturday, of the fresh 71 cases 62 people tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic in the locality of Mangor Hill, which is now a containment zone in Vasco.

The remaining cases pertained  to  three persons who travelled to Goa by train from Maharashtra, three persons who came from Delhi by a flight and three persons who travelled via road – two from Maharashtra and one from Karnataka.

Earlier, a total of 108 cases were recorded at Mangor Hill. With the new 62 cases in the area, the total number of confirmed cases of the COVID-19 in the containment zone has gone up to 170.

All the new 71 COVID patients were shifted to the ESI Hospital in Margao, which is designated for treating COVID patients.

The directorate of health services in its media bulletin issued stated that the condition of all the patients is ‘stable’.

Till date, Goa has seen 267 confirmed cases of COVID-19 of which 202 are active while 65 patients have recovered from the disease.

As per the DHS media bulletin, 12 new suspected cases of the dreaded coronavirus were reported in Goa on Saturday.

All the 12 patients were quarantined in the isolation ward at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

The DHS informed that of the 2311 samples drawn for examination on Saturday, 1389 tested negative, 71 tested positive while reports of the remaining 851 samples are still awaited.

The DHS placed around 503 people under facility quarantine at various residencies and hotels across the state.
