The surge  in COVID positive cases in Goa has put pressure on the Margao-based designated COVID Hospital, forcing  the health authorities  to look for another health facility to accommodate the patients of the deadly virus.

Reliable sources told  ‘The Navhind Times’ that  senior  government  officials  held a meeting  on Saturday evening  to assess the situation. It was decided at the meeting to identify yet another hospital  to treat   COVID  patients from the state.

“The state government is in the process of identifying  yet another  hospital for the purpose  under the  Disaster Management Act. The identification of the second hospital will be done by  tomorrow (Sunday),’’ reliable sources in the  South Goa district collectorate said on Saturday.

Most  probably  the second hospital for COVID patients will not be from Margao, the sources said.

Recently South Goa district collector  Ajit Roy had  discussed with some hospital managements the requisition of a hospital for treating COVID patients, if needed.  Presently, the  TB Hospital in Margao is being used for quarantining the people showing COVID symptoms. The  South Goa District  Hospital  is also

being used  for  testing  swab samples taken in  the district.

Hence the government may not identify these two hospitals  for designating as the second COVID hospital.
