A thirteen-year old Madurai girl Nethra has been appointed the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Association for Development and Peace, the UNADAP. It was in recognition of her role in feeding the poor during the COVID-19 lockdown by her father, a hairdresser by profession.

In Tamil Nadu, 1,438 people have tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. It was the sixth consecutive day for the daily count to exceed the thousand mark. However, 861 people returned home after recovery yesterday, leaving the active caseload at 12,697.

Nearly fifteen thousand people have been tested on a single day yesterday. The total number of fatalities has risen to 232 as twelve people lost their lives in the last twenty four hours. As COVID-19 count in Chennai swells every day to a new high, the Tamil Nadu Government has nominated five Ministers to be part of the Field Support Team in the city.

The team has been formed a few weeks back with senior IAS and IPS officials. They will now be joined by the Ministers who will oversee the coordination and relief works being done by the city civic body. An order to this effect by the government says they will concentrate on the containment zone management, focused testing, contact tracing, isolation and quarantine activities in the city.
