BENGALURU: Karnataka on Friday reported its highest-ever increase of 515 cases in a single day, the number making up nearly 17% of active cases in the state. The state’s previous sharpest spike was 388 cases recorded on June 2. As has been the trend over the past many weeks, inter-state travellers accounted for a majority of the cases, and among them, most patients are from Maharashtra.
There has been a record spike in cases for three days now. For the third time in the last four days, Udupi reported the highest number of cases. No cases were reported from Raichur where 1,022 samples were awaiting results on Thursday. Yadgir reported 74 cases and Kalaburagi 42.

Udupi worst-hit district
Meanwhile, with 685 infections in all, Udupi is Karnataka’s worst-hit district.
Four districts in Karnataka — Udupi, Kalaburagi, Raichur and Yadgir — now have more than 300 active cases each in designated hospitals.
The number of people infected in the state so far is 4,835, of whom 3,088 are currently being treated in hospitals. Among the cases reported on Friday, 482 (94%) were inter-state travellers. Of these, 473 had returned from Maharashtra and three from Delhi.
