UP: NIA files chargesheet against man for trafficking counterfeit Indian currency

LUCKNOW: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet against a man for circulating fake high-quality Indian currency notes at special Lucknow court on Friday.
NIA in its chargesheet stated that Mohammed Murad Alam, a native of Bihar was involved in the trafficking of high quality counterfeit Indian currency notes. Alam has been charged with unlawful activities act, criminal conspiracy and using counterfeit currency-notes, possession of forged currency-notes.
Alam was first nabbed by Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (UPATS) from Ghaziabad Railway foot overbridge on December 11, 2019. Alam was found to be in possession of Rs 2.50 lakh fake currency notes. Later, the case was transferred to the NIA.
NIA said that during investigation, it has surfaced that Alam sourced the fake currency notes from one Sadar Ali of Malda, in West Bengal and had to supply it to one Shahnawaj Ansari in Ghaziabad district of UP.
It also surfaced during the probe, that Alam had brought high quality fake currency multiple times, that was purportedly smuggled from Bangladesh from the same source and was also supplied to the same consignee in UP.
Further investigation was underway, the NIA said.
