Palwal sees 45 cases in 2 wks

Gurgaon: Palwal on Thursday recorded seven new cases of Covid-19, taking the district’s tally to 86. In mid-May, with just two cases, the district was hoping to go turn Covid-19 free; however, it has witnessed new 45 cases in the last 15 days. Of these, nine new cases were reported on June 1. According to the health department, all the cases are contacts of the positive cases detected earlier.
The district created its first containment zone — the first in Haryana — on April 3. “We are getting cases of contacts of Covid-positive people. The contacts of those Covid patients in Faridabad, Gurgaon and Delhi tested positive here. We are tracing their contacts,” Palwal chief medical officer Dr Brahmdeep Sandhu said.
“We’re also identifying all high-risk patients such those with a history of tuberculosis or with a compromised immune system, pregnant women and the elderly. We started a survey for this purpose on Tuesday. We will be making a database of high-risk cases and will be constantly monitoring them,” he added.
The district had witnessed a surge when the cases linked to the Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) congregation in Delhi emerged in April, but no new cases were reported for around a month. New cases, however, are now surfacing. The health department blamed cross-district movement for the sudden rise. “The new cases are of people who work in Faridabad, Gurgaon and Delhi and are frequently commuting to Palwal,” Singh said. So far, 48 patients have been discharged after recovery in the district.
