Virtual hearing for betting licences on June 29

A virtual hearing will be held on June 29 for applications for new permits and licences and renewals under the Gambling and Betting (Amendments) Act.
A release on Thursday from the Chief Magistrate, as the authority for gaming and betting, said the virtual hearing is being held in anticipation of the reopening of gaming houses and betting offices in one of the phases of the lifting of covid19 restrictions.
Applicants were reminded that in accordance with the provisions of the Act, they are required to publish in the daily newspapers, not later than 28 days before the hearing of any such application to the authority.
The notice must specify the name of the applicant, the premises in respect of which the application is made and the nature of the permit or licence to be applied. Objectors have ten days after the publication of the advertisement to send two copies of their grounds of objection.
The virtual hearing will take place at 1 pm, and applicants and their attorneys must send their e-mail addresses along with relevant documents to facilitate communication so they can participate in the virtual hearing.
