TS school fee hike: Parents launch online petition against school fee hike

HYDERABAD: After receiving no response from the school management, parents of those studying in a well-known school in the city have launched a petition in charge.org demanding the school to do away with the ‘promoted class fee’ and collect last year’s tuition fee instead.

Parents said that the school, which has its branches in Kondapur, Gachibowli, and Jubilee Hills, is using a loophole in the government order and has increased the fee by at least 9% for the academic year 2020-21.

“The GO was released to provide little relief to parents during this economic crisis. School management, however, is trying to make us shell out more by saying that we have to pay the promoted class fee of last year. Perse, if a child is promoted to class 5 this year, instead of collecting the fee that parents paid last year, the school is collecting class 5 fee of the academic year 2019-20,” said a parent, whose son is currently in class 7.

They also questioned how the school arrived at the promoted class fees for 2019-20 (baseline fees) when fees payable varies for every student depending on the year the student was admitted into the school.

Parents, who have had individually approached the school management until now over the issue, said that they will be approaching in a group on Monday along with the petition demanding the school to maintain the status quo on fees payable similar to what we paid in the academic year 2019-2020 and not ‘promoted class’ fees being demanded by the school. The petition has over 260 signatures and is addressed to the education minister and the school management.
