Karnataka: Udupi reports highest single-day spike with 204 new Covid-19 cases

MANGALURU/UDUPI: Udupi district has recorded the highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases with 204 new patients on Friday.
While the evening bulletin of the state health and family welfare department recorded 515 fresh cases in the state, Udupi district has topped the list with 204 cases.
Except one person, all the remaining 203 positive cases reported in Udupi were linked to Maharashtra. With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases reported in Udupi so far as per state bulletin has increased to 768 with 685 active cases and one death.
The district had recorded second highest single-day spike with 150 Covid-19 cases on June 2.
Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said that the district has recorded the highest spike in a day since more tests were conducted on Friday.
“We have tested more than 2,000 samples today. Hence, the number of positive cases also has increased. Out of 204 cases reported today, 203 are Maharashtra returnees. Meanwhile, one positive case reported today is a local policeman, who was on check post duty. Positive cases in the district include 157 men, 40 women and seven children. All of them have been admitted to the designated Covid-19 hospital. Officials of the health department have been directed to take care of all the cases by providing all necessary treatment,” the DC said.
The district administration has taken all measures to complete the tests of all the 8,500 persons, who had arrived in Udupi from other states after the lockdown relaxation, the Jagadeesha said.
Dakshina Kannada district recorded eight new positive cases taking the total number to 143 as per Friday’s state bulletin. Out of eight cases, seven are from Maharashtra returnees and the contact tracing under progress with regard to one case. Meanwhile, 12 patients, who were under treatment at Covid-19 Hospital in Mangaluru, were discharged on Friday.
