Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits await PSL's go-ahead to resume training

2020-06-05 18:06

Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits are still training in isolation as they wait for more detailed instructions from the PSL regarding outdoor training.

Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Nathi Mthethwa confirmed that contact sports will be able to return to training under level 3 lockdown.

However, Chiefs and Wits are playing it safe as they await further guidance from the PSL's governing body.

"We are affiliated to the PSL and until we get communication from them, only then we can pronounce," Chiefs corporate communications manager Vina Maphosa told Daily Sun.

"At the moment, the guys are still training on-line and players are still isolated. We are still doing virtual training and we are just awaiting further communication from the league."

Wits are in a similar state of mind. They confirmed that their training grounds have been thoroughly cleaned and prepared, but they are still unsure about the details of training amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Our facilities and premises at Sturrock Park are ready," said Wits director of football Roy Limongelli.

"We disinfected the grounds and we got the compliance certificate. We are also equipped with an adequate supply of sanitizer.

"We are just waiting for the green light from the league as to how and with what to wash out kit, and the wearing of masks.

"We also need to get more information about social distancing at the ground and about training in small groups or not, but other than that we are ready to resume."

A major concern though, is the ability of the league to secure testing for all players especially when there is a global and national shortage of testing kits.
