Stalin urges Tamil Nadu govt to provide Covid-19 disaster relief to electricity consumers

CHENNAI: Criticising Tangedco for billing its customers for four months straight, DMK president M K Stalin on Friday urged Tamil Nadu government to provide Covid-19 relief to consumers for next six months.
In a statement, Stalin said many consumers were without income during the lockdown.
“Several domestic power consumers received bills for four months between February and June. Since it is summer time, consumption increased and now many of them are finding it difficult to pay the bill at one go,” he said.
The state government must consider providing a disaster relief for the consumers, who have paid their bills or the bill raised based on the reading recorded by Tangedco assessors, Stalin added.
He criticised the state government for being silent on the issue as many consumers have no money to pay their electricity bill. “Tangedco asked the consumers to pay their previous bill. Now even after they paid the amount as per their previous bill, the discom is not deducting the units for which the consumers paid bill,” said Stalin.
He said the state government was stubborn on the issue and this would affect the middle class consumers.
