India and Australia signed an agreement on Thursday for the use of each other's military bases in the Indian Pacific region to increase barricades and defense cooperation against China. In the first virtual conference between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian PM Scott Morrison, seven agreements have been signed to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
In the virtual conference, PM Modi and Morrison discussed the issue of the corona epidemic, mutual cooperation, and the Indian Ocean. After the new agreement, the forces of the two countries will now be able to use each other's bases in the Indian Pacific region to repair and supply weapons. In fact, India has already signed a similar agreement with the US, France, and Singapore for a barricade against China. Apart from this, India-Australia has six agreements to increase cooperation in the fields of cyber, technology, mining and minerals, military technology, professional education, and public resource management.
Together in the fight against terrorism
The two leaders agreed to fight together against terrorism, saying terrorism is the biggest obstacle to peace and stability. It has to end from the root. Terrorist activities cannot be ignored at any cost. Both called for a comprehensive conference on international terrorism. Apart from this, the Navy also promised to cooperate, improve the WTO, and deal with the coronavirus.
India is looking at the crisis as an opportunity
Modi said India is seeing the Corona crisis as an opportunity. India has started the process of overall reform. It will soon see results at the ground level. "This is an opportune moment to strengthen the relationship between India and Australia," he said. There are limitless possibilities to further strengthen our friendship. The PM thanked Morrison for taking care of the Indian community in Australia, especially the students.
Morrison praised Modi
Australian PM Morrison praised PM Modi for his constructive and positive role on other forums including the G20. Saluted the spirit of advancing his global initiative to combat the Coronavirus. "India has done commendable work for stability in the Indian Pacific region," Morrison said. He hoped that this conversation with PM Modi would give a new dimension to the relationship between the two countries.
