The police have identified the nabbed accused as Gurpreet Singh alias Guri, 26, of Kaithal, Haryana. The police have recovered a country-made revolver from Gurpreet but said that it was not the weapon used in the crime. Guri has no criminal past.
The police said that the gangsters had asked Gurpreet to snatch a car and drop it at a godown in Haryana after which he will be given the next task once another robbed car reaches the same place.

Gurpreet had on Tuesday allegedly robbed the car from Mandeep Singh, 30, of Dullar village in Patiala after injuring him with five gunshots at Patiala – Samana road. The police searched out the CCTV cameras and conducted probe technically to reach out the accused robber.
“Two car robberies were planned by the gangsters in Ambala jail to commit some another crime which is still unknown. The robbed cars were supposed to be kept at a secret place in Haryana from where the next action was supposed to be taken by the gangsters or their accomplices. There was some bigger crime planned by the gangsters who did not even let know their plans to their accomplices given the task to rob the car. We will seek the remand of the accused Gurpreet Singh from the court and will bring the gangsters from Ambala jail on production warrant to carry out an in-depth investigation. The gangsters were lodged in an infamous Ambala jewellery shop dacoit in which a person was also killed”, Patiala SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu.
