Mumbai: Cop posted in Dahisar dies of Covid-19 infection

MUMBAI: A 54-year-old head constable attached with with Dahisar police station succumbed to Covid-19 on Thursday. The deceased's test reports came after his death.
The deceased cop was a diabetic and had been on leave for a week. He became the 20th casualty from the Mumbai Police force and the second from Dahisar police station.
The head constable lived at New MHB Colony with his family. It is not clear how he contracted the virus.
"He developed fever and went on leave from May 27. He went to a family physician who gave the cop antibiotics. By June 1, he developed difficulty in breathing and was admitted to a private hospital in Borivali West," said an officer.
At the hospital, he was lodged in the non-Covid ICCU as he hadn't been tested until then.
"The level of oxygen in his blood was low. The doctors were suggesting that he be moved to a dedicated Covid hospital. But that couldn't be done as he did not have a Covid test report. After seeking intervention from senior doctors, it was decided to treat him as suspected Covid-19 patient. He was given oxygen. Later, a swab was taken for testing for the infection. The report arrived in the evening of June 4 which said he was Covid-19 positive. But he had passed away in the morning," said an officer. The cop is survived by his wife who has tested negative for the infection.
At Dahisar police station, cops have been coming into contact with thousands of people while sending them to their hometowns through buses and Shramik Special trains. Cops have also been monitoring vehicular movement at the check-naka round the clock.
"We have been taking all precautions possible. Body temperature and oxygen level of staff is being monitored. They are being given supplements to boost immunity. Lately, we had chest x-rays taken of all our personnel. The police station premises is sanitised thrice a day," said senior inspector MM Mujawar.
