MADURAI: The Ramanathapuram district police seized various suspected narcotics and psychotropic substances, including amphetamine, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, on Friday. None were arrested in connection to the seizure.
Ramanathapuram superintendent of police (SP) Varun Kumar said the seized substances include 1.190kg of amphetamine, 1.130kg of heroin, 300 grams of cocaine, eight grams of methamphetamine and five small containers with samples of these drugs which were kept for sale. He said two suspected lion teeth, two deer antlers and a two-wheeler were also seized.
Recalling an arrest that was made a few days ago, the SP said in May, based on an information he received over phone about drug smuggling, eight special teams headed by former Thiruvadai DSP Pugazhenthi Ganesh seized various narcotics and psychotropic drugs. A nine- member gang was arrested in connection with this incident.
“Based on a lead that we got from the earlier seizure, SIs Thangamuniyasamy and Jesudass seized narcotics drugs on Friday,” he added.
Kumar noted that the same gang, that was arrested earlier, was the accused in this case as well. However, police suspect involvement of others too.
He said the value of the seized contraband could be ascertained only after lab tests. Since the earlier case was transferred to NIB-CID, the seized contraband too was handed over to them, Kumar added.
