Coronavirus Maharashtra: 2,933 cases, 123 deaths in last 24 hours

With 123 deaths in one day, Maharashtra on Thursday reported the highest single-day deaths, taking the tally of coronavirus patients in the state to 2,993, according to the state health department.

Maharashtra which is badly hit by the contagion is observing a continuous rise in the number of deaths for a past few days. The second-highest number of deaths in one day erected at 122 on Wednesday.

With 2,933 cases reported on Thursday, the tally of cases now is over 77,793, the health department said.

On the other side, 33,681 are recovered and has been discharged from the hospital. There are currently 41,402 active cases in Maharashtra, with over 5,10,176 people have been tested so far.

Meanwhile, the country also witnessed the biggest single-day jump in daily number with 9,304 people testing positive for the infection. The total number of COVID-19 cases in India jumped to 2,16,919, according to the Ministry of Health.

RATE OF INFECTION

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), quoted Hindustan publication, India’s average of new coronavirus cases is 6.67 per 100 but Maharashtra which is worst hit, this number jumps to 16.

According to ICMR, 1,39,485 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours in the country. The total number of samples tested in India now is 42,42,718.

Apart from Maharashtra, many states such as Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Tripura and Bihar have also observed a surge in the COVID-19 cases.

MAHARASHTRA PWD MINISTER RECOVERED

Maharashtra PWD Minister and former Chief Minister of the state Ashok Chavan, who tested positive for COVID-19 in May was discharged from a hospital in Mumbai on Thursday after recovering from the infection.

After being discharged, the senior Congress leader marched away to his hometown. He was admitted to a private hospital on May 25 after his test report showed positive for the infection. He was discharged on Thursday after recovering from the COVID-19, his office said.
