Bentley resumed production at its Crewe factory on May 11 after a stoppage due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bentley is cutting about 1,000 jobs in the UK amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, the BBC reported on Thursday.

The cuts at the Volkswagen Group brand are expected to be announced on Friday, according to the report

Bentley is likely to offer workers the chance of voluntary lay offs, the report added.

Bentley restarted production on May 11 at its Crewe factory in England. However, the shutdown of its UK production due to the virus outbreak has hurt the automaker.

Aston Martin, another UK luxury carmaker, on Thursday said it planned to shed 500 jobs as it seeks to bring its cost base into line with reduced sports car production levels.

VW Group and Bentley did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment late on Thursday.
