Family bursts crackers after Covid patient’s recovery; hosp show-caused

Jamshedpur: While the family members of a patient who recovered from Covid-19 celebrated his homecoming by bursting crackers and beating drums on Tuesday night, Tata Main Hospital (TMH) received a show-cause notice from the district administration on Wednesday for not informing them about his discharge.
The man, a Jet Airways staff in Kolkata, had returned to Jamshedpur on May 20 with his wife and did not inform the district health department. After neighbours informed police about their arrival, a health team took samples from the couple, following which the man tested positive on May 30 and was admitted to TMH on the same day. Sources said, a day before his test results arrived, the man had celebrated his birthday at home with friends and family.
East Singbhum district civil surgeon Maheshwar Prasad said, “TMH discharged a Covid-19 patient on Tuesday after he recovered and his samples tested negative for the virus. However, no discharge from the covid wing can take place after 7pm and most importantly, without prior information to us (administration).” TMH authorities were yet to issue an official reply till the time of filing this report.
On Tuesday night, when the family members of the man engaged in heightened celebrations, security personnel posted near his residence in Daigutu area (a containment zone) under Mango police station failed to stop the family even at the entry point. After neighbours informed police, the celebrations were stopped and the man was taken back to the hospital.
Mango police station in-charge Mithilesh Kumar Singh said, “An FIR was lodged and subsequently four persons of the family, including the man’s father and brothers, were arrested and sent to jail for violating lockdown norms.”
